More From Our Patients
I was so impressed with everyone at Smile Boutique. I had not visited the dentist in quite a while and I'm so glad I made my appointment. The dentist explained gum disease and the importance of regular visits to me in a way that really hit home. I'm definitely getting the deep cleang on a regular basis for now on. Thank you everyone at Smile Boutique.

This dentist is the best I've been to. All of the staff are very helpful and involved in your needs. It's nice to see people that take their job seriously. I came in for an X-ray and cleaning, and after a detailed checkup I decided to get treatment here as well. I had six cavities filled and a deep cleaning, which helped with my gum recession. The prices are affordable and if you need major work, they will work out a payment plan. I am satisfied and will keep recommending Smile Boutique and coming back to Dr. Borzoo. Thank you!

Deep Cleaning
A Deep Cleaning a.k.a. Scaling & Root Planing is a deep cleaning of the root surfaces to remove plaque and calculus from deep periodontal pockets and to remove bacterial toxins off of the roots. We use a topical anesthetic for a pain free alternative to shots.
Many patients have inflammation, especially in areas they find difficult to keep clean daily. With the topical anesthetic under the gum line the once sensitive gum tissue is easily debrided, which allows for healing to occur.
How Does Deep Cleaning Differ from
A Routine Cleaning?
The deep cleaning procedure is designed to help avoid periodontal disease which is caused by a large buildup of calculus and plaque on the crowns and root surfaces of teeth. It can begin as localized gingival inflammation and progress to serious disease that results in major damage to the soft tissue and the bone that supports the teeth. If periodontal disease is left untreated, it can progress to the ultimate loss of teeth.
Normally your bone and gum tissue should fit snugly around your teeth. In periodontal disease, gingival tissue may detach (pull away) from teeth, and form periodontal pockets. Over time, these pockets become deeper, providing a larger space for bacteria to live.
Scaling and Root Planing (Deep Cleaning) is intended to provide a healthy tissue environment by removing the plaque above and below the gumline as well as deep into the periodontal pocket, thereby helping your gums reattach to the teeth.
Routine Cleaning is performed for the purpose of maintaining healthy gums by removing the buildup of bacteria and tarter that gathers between the teeth. Routine cleanings are typically performed twice a year by a Registered Dental Hygienist or dentist as preventative dental care.
